LevelUp Focus – District Pilot Overview

Pilot brief for districts

Gamified focus, real academic habits, and effort data your schools can actually use.

1. What is LevelUp Focus?

Student-built, school-ready, and designed to sit alongside your existing tools.

LevelUp Focus is a student-built, school-ready web app that turns studying into a gamified experience:

  • Students start focus sessions, earn XP, build streaks, and unlock cosmetics.
  • Teachers get simple, visual effort data – not surveillance.
  • Counselors and admins get high-level trends: who’s showing up to the grind.

It’s designed to fit alongside existing tools (Google Classroom, SIS, etc.), not replace them.

2. Why run a pilot in this district?

How a focused trial can support engagement, MTSS, and support periods.

A LevelUp pilot helps your district:

  • Increase student engagement in homework and independent study.
  • Support MTSS/504/RTI with effort data, not just grades.
  • Motivate struggling students with clear goals, streaks, and rewards.
  • Give teachers a low-lift tool to encourage practice without extra grading.

This is especially powerful for:

  • Freshmen and sophomores building habits
  • Credit recovery programs
  • Academic support/study skills classes
  • After-school programs and tutoring labs

3. Core Features (Student Experience)

How LevelUp feels for students in day-to-day use.

Focus Timer & XP System

Students start a session, lock in, and earn XP based on active minutes.

Streaks & Missions

Daily/weekly goals, streak protection, and mission rewards.

Squads & World Map (Optional)

Students can form squads, earn team XP, and unlock map tiles to visualize “who’s grinding.”

GPA & Proof-of-Grind Tools (Optional)

Students can track courses and GPA, and generate reports that show real effort over time.

4. Core Features (Teacher & School Experience)

What teachers and schools see during a pilot.

Teacher Dashboard (Optional)

View class-level effort trends:

  • Who is logging sessions?
  • Who is building streaks?
  • Who is slipping?

Class Join Codes

Students join a teacher’s class with a simple code – no SIS integration required for pilot.

Class Raids / Study Events (Optional)

Teachers can run “class raids” where the whole class contributes minutes toward a shared boss fight or target.

Effort Over Time

High-level trends for:

  • Minutes studied per week
  • Consistency of effort
  • Improvements over time

5. Safety, Privacy & Data

Designed to give effort data without turning into surveillance.

LevelUp was designed with safety in mind:

Collects only:

  • Email
  • Hashed password
  • Study activity (minutes, XP, streaks)
  • Optional GPA/course data entered by the student

Does not:

  • Track browser history
  • Log keystrokes
  • Monitor messages
  • Record microphone or camera

No ads, no sale of student data.

Full details are available on the Safety & Data page: what we collect, what we don’t, how deletion works, and how teachers and parents can contact us.

6. Pilot Structure (Example)

A concrete template for a 6–12 week rollout.

Recommended pilot length: 6–12 weeks

Grade levels: 8–12 (flexible)

Sites: 1–3 schools to start

Ideal pilot contexts:

  • Study skills / AVID / support periods
  • After-school homework labs
  • Freshman seminar or transition courses

During the pilot, we suggest:

  • A short intro lesson for students (10–15 minutes)
  • Weekly or biweekly check-ins with teachers
  • End-of-pilot reflection for both staff and students

7. Implementation Plan (Sample)

A week-by-week outline for admins, IT, and teachers.

Week 0 – Admin & IT Review

  • Review Safety & Privacy
  • Approve domains and allowlist if needed

Week 1 – Teacher Onboarding

  • Teachers create accounts and request teacher access
  • Set up first classes and join codes

Week 2 – Student Rollout

  • Quick classroom intro (5–10 minutes)
  • Have students join classes and run their first focus session

Weeks 3–8 – Active Pilot

  • Use LevelUp in study blocks, homework routines, and small-group support
  • Monitor effort trends in the Teacher Dashboard

Final Week – Review & Next Steps

  • Teachers fill a short feedback form
  • Admins review engagement data and staff input
  • Decide on expansion to more sites / grades
