LevelUp – School Data & Privacy Overview

This one-page overview summarizes how LevelUp approaches data, privacy, and school use. It is designed to be read by IT teams, counselors, and district leaders and can be printed or saved as a PDF.

Purpose

LevelUp helps students build better study habits and gives schools measurable “effort data” without extra grading work. It can support MTSS, 504/IEP documentation, academic support periods, and grade recovery.

Audience

Middle and high school students, teachers, counselors, and districts.

Core Features

  • Focus sessions and study timers with XP and streaks
  • GPA tracking, projections, and academic “arc” views
  • Study tools (notes, practice, flashcards)
  • Proof of Grind reports (exportable effort summaries)
  • Teacher Hub for classroom effort insights
  • District-level engagement summaries

Data Collected

LevelUp uses minimal data, primarily:

  • Student email
  • Password hash (never the raw password)
  • In-app study activity (focus minutes, XP, streaks, study sessions)
  • Optional academic information the student or school chooses to enter (grades, course records, GPA details)

Data Protection & Privacy

  • No selling or renting student data
  • No behavioral advertising
  • No keystroke, screen, or web browsing monitoring
  • Data encrypted in transit and at rest
  • Student academic data is treated as student-owned; schools may access progress only as allowed by local policies and FERPA

COPPA & FERPA Alignment

  • Designed with COPPA in mind: students under the age of digital consent should use LevelUp only with school or parent/guardian permission, as required by local policy.
  • Intended to be FERPA-compatible: academic records are only used to power student-facing analytics and school reports; LevelUp does not re-use or sell this data for unrelated purposes.
  • Schools can request data export or deletion for students as required by local law.

School Integrations

  • Teacher Hub for classes, assignments, and effort views
  • Class-level focus minutes and streak consistency
  • Simple exports for parent meetings, MTSS, 504/IEP documentation, and grade recovery
  • District-level summary dashboard (students/teachers/classes and engagement trends)
  • No SIS integration required to get started

Security Overview

  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS)
  • Role-based access (student, teacher, district admin, admin)
  • Limited admin tooling for internal support and debugging only
  • Account deletion and data removal available upon request
